Tips for getting pen ink off the inside of your dryer?
I accidentally left a ballpoint pen inside of a shirt pocket when I put said shirt in the dryer. Now, there is pen ink smeared all over the inside of the walls of the tumbler. Anyone know the best method to get the ink off without ruining the paint?
Tough one! This may help. Get some white spirits or nail polish remover. Get lots of soft rags or paper towels. If there is a PILOT LIGHT or GAS, turn them off and also unplug the dryer and open the window.
Start by applying the solvent to the rag and wipe at each ink spot one at a time. Wipe the area while constantly turning or flipping the rag or paper so that you absorb the ink and not spread it. Keep doing this on each spot until no more ink comes off onto the towel. When all spots have been treated, go back with some dish soap and do the same thing on each spot, each time turning the rag to adsorb the ink and not smear it.
If any remains, at least it won't come off on the clothes. If you really are worried about it, wipe the entire drum inside with chlorine bleach to get the last traces. Use GLOVES for all of this and do it in a well ventilated area. Take a breather once in a while and keep your head out of the drum when using the solvents. Once everything is clean, wipe the inside drum with cool water and a sponge a few times.
Remember to properly dispose of the solvent laden towels or paper towels.
